Domestic Violence Services

YWCA Dayton operates the only domestic violence shelters in Montgomery and Preble counties as well as our region’s longest-running 24-hour, year-round crisis hotline. All services are free and confidential and offer a wide variety of programming to help women and children improve their personal safety, encourage self-sufficiency, and empower women to survive, cope, and re-enter the community safely.

YWCA Dayton shelter services offer a wide variety of programming grounded in Trauma Informed Care that walks alongside women and children to improve their personal safety, build self-sufficiency, and re-enter the community with strength and security. We operate two domestic violence shelters, one in Montgomery County and one in Preble County.

In addition, we know that abuse affects the whole family. More than half of domestic violence victims are reluctant to leave their abusers because they’d also be abandoning their pets. Thanks to community partnerships, YWCA Dayton connects women entering our domestic violence shelters with concurrent animal shelters so the whole family can heal. Partners include:

Case management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care coordination, evaluation, and advocacy. Each case management plan is tailored specifically to the needs of each individual and family and include:

  • Employment assistance
  • Children’s activities and after-school tutoring
  • Advocacy and referral services
  • Appointment accompaniment
  • Aftercare services

YWCA Dayton’s crisis hotline (937-222-SAFE) opened in 1977 and provides free and confidential services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other forms of intimate partner and gender-based violence. Our hotline is always available to serve friends and family of survivors as well as community partners.

YWCA Dayton’s domestic violence shelter services are accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA). We are the only COA-accredited domestic violence services site in Montgomery and Preble counties and are one of only 61 COA-accredited domestic violence services sites nationwide.
