Landlord Specialist | Position Description

YWCA Dayton, dedicated to the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism, seeks an energetic, dedicated person to be an integral part of our team. The Landlord Specialist will work closely with the Rapid Rehousing Manager to secure emergency housing in Montgomery County. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with both private landlords and apartment community landlords. This position supports the vision, mission, and values of YWCA Dayton.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify safe and affordable housing throughout Montgomery County, Ohio
  • Establish a roster of potential landlords including available diverse housing
  • Establish and maintain all renters’ relationships
  • Conduct housing inspections to ensure that housing units are safe and in livable condition
  • Work with Rapid Rehousing Manager to ensure process readiness and efficiencies
  • Respond readily to gaps to strengthen community relationships
  • Stabilize the housing portfolio to ensure YWCA Dayton will meet best practices and become a choice partner for stakeholders
  • Establish the YWCA Dayton Rapid Rehousing program as the subject matter expert for women destabilized by violence/trauma
  • Monitor and report any defects or damages to the living unit that are reported by client
  • Attend and participate in Landlord/Client Laws training, events, and conferences to advance rapid rehousing goals and the YWCA mission

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 or more years of customer service experience.
  • 2-3 or more years in housing-related field.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of families in crisis.
  • Knowledge of Fair Housing practices
  • Experience interpreting legal documents, including real estate leases and contracts
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Knowledge and skills in identifying affordable permanent housing units.
  • Knowledge of housing market trends within Montgomery and surrounding counties.
  • Willing to follow supervisory directions and attend trainings, staff meetings, and conferences as needed for the position.
  • Good computer skills, with the ability to maintain accurate electronic records.
  • Good communication and interpersonal problem resolution skills.
  • Working knowledge of typical needs and issues of target population.
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, homelessness and interventions in residential settings.

COMMITMENT TO SERVICE:

  • Must be responsive to the needs and request of staff, volunteers, donors and Board of Directors.
  • Must extend courtesy, friendliness and overall respect to all of the above.
  • Will collaborate with other staff and/or departments to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Will be available to times and events when evenings and weekends will be required to fulfill duties.
