Movies on a Mission

Movies on a Mission

On March 23, Gov. Mike DeWine announced a “stay at home” order for Ohioans that has since been extended to May 1 in an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Inspired by our fellow YWCA sisters around the country, we’ve compiled a list of Media On a Mission: television shows, films, documentaries, books, podcasts, and playlists that are widely available and aligned with YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Each month, we’ll host a Netflix watch party for you to join staff and connect with friends around a mission-focused film. For June, we’ll be highlighting our Girls LEAD! program by watching The Breadwinner, a 2017 animated film that follows a courageous 11-year-old Afghan girl who disguises herself as a boy to take on odd jobs that provide for her family after her father is arrested.
