On March 23, Gov. Mike DeWine announced a “stay at home” order for Ohioans that has since been extended to May 1 in an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Inspired by our fellow YWCA sisters around the country, we’ve compiled a list of Media On a Mission: television shows, films, documentaries, books, podcasts, and playlists that are widely available and aligned with YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Each month, we’ll host a Netflix watch party for you to join staff and connect with friends around a mission-focused film. For April, we’ll be watching 13th in honor of Stand Against Racism and as a follow-up to our second annual 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge. Filmmaker Ava DuVernay explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans.
