Y-Dub Discussions: Until Justice Just Is – Becoming an Ally for Change
Apr 22 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Y-Dub Discussions: Until Justice Just Is - Becoming an Ally for Change @ Virtual via Zoom

What is an ally and why does it matter? Join us for our next Y-Dub Discussions, specifically designed for and by the Preble County community, to discover how anti-racist allyship can help create stronger communities for all.

As we work to ensure that our communities become places in which all people have a chance to thrive, it’s important to understand the impact systems of power have on our lives. This life-long work involves a commitment to building authentic relationships across difference, unlearning habits that keep us from creating a more just society, and acknowledging where we stand in relation to privilege – in our workplaces, our families and our social circles. Being an ally is about reducing our complicity in oppressive systems through practices like humility, collaboration and accountability to others.

This conversation will feature Preble County leaders, providing a unique opportunity to hear about firsthand experiences with allyship in rural communities, and will leave you with tools for how you, too, can be an ally for change. Panelists will include:

  • Miranda Armstead, Rural Advocate, YWCA Dayton
  • Shawn Hoff, Assistant Superintendent, Preble County Educational Service Center
  • Becky Sorrell, Director, Preble County Job and Family Services
  • Kenneth Stewart, Pastor, Ware’s Chapel UMC
  • Rachael Vonderhaar, Preble County Commissioner and Owner of Vonderhaar Farms

Free to attend. REGISTER NOW

YWCA Dayton is on a mission to eliminate racism and empower women. Previous Y-Dub Discussion topics have included: the effects of trauma within the classroom; recognizing childhood trauma and toxic stress; the political marginalization of women of color; racism as a public health crisis; and more.
