Work Smart Salary Negotiation Training (presented by University of Dayton Women's Center)

Negotiating salaries can be a challenge for individuals at all stages of their careers. This workshop, facilitated by trained staff from the University of Dayton Women's Center, is designed to help you negotiate for a new job, raise, or promotion. In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about the wage gap, including its long-term consequences;
  • How to identify and articulate your personal value;
  • How to develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and other negotiation strategies, including how to get a raise or promotion;
  • How to conduct objective market research to benchmark a target salary and benefits.

Accomplices & Allies Training: Recognizing, Responding and Supporting Survivors

YWCA Dayton is proud to present a community training session that teaches everyday people techniques for recognizing and responding to sexual violence, as well as techniques on how to support the survivors in their own lives. This day-long training session gives cultural context for sexual violence, relevant techniques for recognizing situations where violence may be present, methods on showing support to survivors, and ways to actively intervene before violence occurs. The itinerary includes:

10 a.m.-1 p.m.  Rape Culture 101  Trainees will learn the cultural context of sexual assault and recognize the intersection of violence, gender, and social position. Relevant examples of existing cultural tropes will be presented and interpreted through the context of sexual violence.

1-2 p.m.  Lunch Break  Trainees will be given a one-hour break for lunch; food is not provided. YWCA Dayton is within walking distance of many downtown eateries; view THIS MAP for a full listing.

2-5 p.m.  Showing Up, Showing Support  Trainees will be shown examples of possible scenarios and contexts in which sexual violence may be present. Trainees will also learn techniques for responding to sexual assault disclosures and methods of providing support to survivors. Methods for actively intervening in situations before violence occurs will also be presented, with trainees given a chance to demonstrate these skills.
